Cooler Nights guide
How to cool one side of the bed
Reviewed August 26, 2026
Practical options when one partner sleeps hot and the other does not.
Avoid cooling the whole room first
Lowering the thermostat may make the cooler partner uncomfortable and increase energy use. Begin with changes that can be confined to one side.
Separate the top layers
Individual blankets allow each sleeper to choose a different weight and material. A breathable sheet and light blanket on the warmer side may be enough.
Target the airflow
A small fan aimed across one side or an under-cover air system can provide local relief. Placement matters, and the airflow should not automatically cross the other sleeper.
When dual-zone systems help
Some higher-cost air or water systems allow separate controls. Compare the actual zone design, maintenance, return policy and recurring costs before treating dual-zone control as essential.
Health note
Cooling products may improve comfort, but they do not treat the cause of night sweats. New, severe or persistent symptoms should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional.
